Melissa Jaggers, President & Chief Executive Officer
Melissa came to Alignment Nashville after serving as Director of Grant Development at Nashville State Community College for six years, where she worked to secure several federally funded grants from the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Education, and other sources. She also served as Nashville State's Director of Development, raising private funds for the institution and working with the Nashville State Foundation. Previously, Melissa was Director of Marketing at the Renaissance Center in Dickson, Tennessee, and Account Manager at Fletcher & Rowley Political Consulting. Melissa holds a BA in Political Science from Western Kentucky University.
Heather Chalos, Vice President of National Initiatives
Heather oversees the Alignment USA Network and the Nashville Hub. She has previously served Alignment Nashville in the roles of Vice President of Operations and Associate Director. Heather is a graduate of Belmont University and joined Alignment Nashville in 2012 after having worked in children's health for over twelve years. Her background and experience includes non-profit management, medical practice management, volunteer management, collective impact consulting and coaching, and grant writing.
Sydney Rogers, AUSA Consultant
Sydney Rogers is currently a consultant for Alignment USA and was the founding Executive Director of Alignment Nashville. While leading Alignment Nashville, Rogers developed Alignment USA, a national network of Alignment organizations that implement Alignment Principles, Structure, Process, and Technology. Also during her tenure as ED of Alignment she was a consultant for Ford Next Generation Learning (NGL), an initiative of the Ford Motor Company Fund.
For thirty years, Sydney served the community at Nashville State Community College in Nashville and Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville. During her tenure at Nashville State, she served as a faculty member, department chair, Dean of Technology, Interim Executive Vice President and in 2001, was named Vice President of Community and Economic development. While at the college, she led a 10-year effort to develop state and national collaborative college and high school redesign initiatives with support and funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Department of Education. She founded an NSF Regional Center for Innovation in Technological Education (CITE), The Case Files project (a national network), Problem-Based Case Learning (PBCL), South East Consortium for Advanced Technological Education, and Tennessee Exemplary Faculty for Advanced Technological Education (a statewide effort).
Anthony Johnson, Senior Associate Director
Anthony B. Johnson, Esq., is a native of Memphis, TN. He has a Bachelor's of Science and Master's of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee State University (TSU) and a Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law. Mr. Johnson is member of the Wisconsin State Bar. He has extensive legal experience in corporate and securities law, business and contract law, real estate development and intellectual property law. Mr. Johnson has taught engineering and engineering ethics classes in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Department in the College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science at TSU. Anthony joins Alignment Nashville from Community Nashville, where he was Vice President of Program Services. He spends a lot of time nurturing, coaching and mentoring youth and is well versed in youth empowerment and service learning initiatives. Mr. Johnson is an experienced and gifted facilitator and well read on issues of race, diversity, privilege and inclusiveness.
Laurie Preece, AUSA Consultant
Laurie R. Preece was born in San Francisco and grew up in New England. She studied accounting at Brigham Young University. After college Laurie worked for Marshall Field & Company in both their Chicago and Texas divisions. Laurie has been an active volunteer and advocate for public education, working closely with teachers, principals, school boards and community members to improve local learning opportunities. She has started parent-teacher organizations, raised funds for myriad school programs and led an elementary school through the process of becoming a school community-based management organization. Laurie moved to Rockford, IL in 2008. In 2009 Alignment Rockford incorporated as a public school support organization. Laurie served as the founding executive director of Alignment Rockford. Laurie now serves as an AUSA Consultant.
Lwam Tecleab, AUSA Project Manager
Lwam, a native of Rochester, NY, obtained her bachelor’s from Geneseo State University in Mathematics, and continued her education, receiving a master’s in Adolescence Math Education from the University at Buffalo. While in Rochester, Lwam has spent time as a teacher. She has also spent a few years as a Compliance Specialist working directly with the business offices of school districts, assisting with regulating retirement plans.
